David Schwimmer is about to become friends with a mysterious Venom-like goo in Goosebumps Season 2. Disney+ has unveiled the premiere date for the hotly-anticipated sophomore season of the R. L. Stine adaptation, which has been subtitled The Vanishing.
Roughly seven months after it was announced that Schwimmer — who is best known for playing Ross Geller in all ten seasons of the hit comedy series Friends — would be leading the cast of Goosebumps Season 2, Disney+ has revealed the first teaser trailer and poster for the new season of the thrilling anthology series, which sees the actor step into the role of Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. Check out the first teaser trailer and poster for Goosebumps: The Vanishing, which hints at Schwimmer's Anthony Brewer becoming the host for a Venom-like symbiote, below.
"Goosebumps: The Vanishing begins when twins Cece and Devin Brewer are sent to spend a summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn, with their divorced dad. A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994," reads the official synopsis.
In addition to Schwimmer, Goosebumps: The Vanishing stars Ana Ortiz as Jen, Jayden Bartels as Cece, Sam McCarthy as Devin, Elijah M. Cooper as CJ, Galilea La Salvia as Frankie, Francesca Noel as Alex, and Stony Blyden as Trey.
The Goosebumps Brand Remains Beloved by Millions
Published by Scholastic, Goosebumps remains one of the best-selling book series of all time. The new season of the Disney+/Hulu series is confirmed to draw on elements from some of the brand's most popular books, including Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, and Welcome to Camp Nightmare.
Goosebumps, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television, is the fourth major adaptation of Stine's novels, following the original Goosebumps series (1995-98) and two live-action films starring Jack Black that were released in 2015 and 2018.
New R. L. Stine Adaptation Coming to Netflix
Stine is similar to Stephen King, another popular horror author, in that Hollywood is never far away from adapting another of his novels to film or television. In addition to Goosebumps: The Vanishing on Disney+, a fourth installment in Netflix's Fear Street franchise, based on the novels of the same name by Stine, is in development at the streamer.
Titled Fear Street: Prom Queen, the upcoming movie will adapt Stine's 1992 novel of the same name. "Prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider is unexpectedly nominated to the court, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night," reads the logline. The cast for Prom Queen includes India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, and Katherine Waterston, with Barbie and Ahsoka star Arian Greenblatt also expected to appear in a supporting role.
