Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega are in talks to star in The Gallerist, with Cathy Yan on board to direct. Yan co-wrote the pic with James Pedersen. Portman and Sophie Mas will produce through their MountainA banner along with Jonathan King, Ash Sarohia, Tom McCarthy, Rae Baron, Sophie Mas and Zola Elgart Glassman are producing.
The film follows a desperate gallerist who conspires to sell a dead guy at Art Basel Miami.
If deals were to close, the film would become quite the package by teaming the Oscar-winning Portman with Ortega, one of Hollywood’s biggest rising stars.
Portman is coming off her Golden Globe-nominated role in the Netflix drama May December. She recently wrapped production on the Apple and Skydance adventure pic Fountain of Youth.
Ortega is coming off the box office hit Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which just crossed the $400 million worldwide box office mark. She is about to start production on Season 2 of the Netflix series Wednesday and also has the secret J.J. Abrams pic she will shoot next year.
Best known for her work on Dead Pigs and Warner Bros” Birds of Prey, Yan most recently directed one of the episodes in the final season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama Succession.
Yan, Portman and Ortega are all repped by CAA. McCarthy and Pedersen are repped by Gersh.
