Phineas and Ferb co-creator Dan Povenmire took to Instagram to announce a long-awaited update for fans of the Disney Channel animated series that ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2015. “The first episode of Phineas and Ferb season five is officially in the can!” Povenmire wrote on his post from Oct. 2. The post shows a group of people all cheering and giving thumbs up in front of a screen with the show’s logo.
The series, which follows step-brothers and their adventures during their “104 days of summer vacation”, was created by Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh and consists of 129 episodes.
The post has more than 67,000 likes and over 600 comments thus far, including a comment from Phineas Flynn himself, actor Vincent Martella, who voices half of the titular duo. Martella commented “YEEESSSSS” on the post. His comment alone has over 200 likes.
In addition to the often crazy adventures the step-brothers encounter during their summer vacation, one notable aspect of the show was often a storyline involving their pet platypus Perry, who is actually a secret agent. Perry, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad) is often seen trying to thwart the plans and schemes of evil scientist Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, voiced by Povenmire.
In addition to the four seasons of the series, there are two movies - 2011’s Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe from 2020. Season 5 was first announced in 2023.
Martella voiced Phineas in all four seasons of the show as well as the movie. Ferb was voiced by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (The Queen’s Gambit) for the series and the first movie. David Errigo Jr. voiced Ferb in the 2020 movie and is listed on IMDB as the voice of Ferb for the 2024 Phineas and Ferb revival show.
Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical) voices their sister Candace, whose main objective is to bust her brothers - and win the attention of her crush, Jeremy, voiced by Mitchel Musso (Hannah Montana). Caroline Rhea voiced mom, Linda Flynn-Fletcher and Richard O’Brien voiced dad, Lawrence Fletcher.
One of the Best Movies Based on a Cartoon
CBR named the 2011 Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension No. 2 on a list of the best animated movies based on cartoons. The movie packed just as much charm as the cartoon, but added more action sequences to keep viewers entertained.
The revival is set to premiere sometime in 2024, according to post he made on his TikTok page in 2023. At that time, Disney stated that the series would return for two seasons and a total of 40 episodes. When the series aired originally, it was popular among both adults and children due to its smart writing, humor, and musical numbers in each episode.
The series won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in Animation and several Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
