Rick and Morty is not going anywhere for a while. It has been announced that the show has been renewed for another two seasons, guaranteeing Rick and Morty will be on the air through 2029.
At New York Comic Con, it was officially announced that Rick and Morty has been renewed for Seasons 11 and 12. The panel was attended by executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder alongside series regulars Harry Belden, Ian Cardoni, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Chris Parnell. Rick and Morty had previously been renewed up to Season 10, making the renewal come in very early, given that Season 8 will not even premiere until 2025. Additionally, a new animatic revealing a first look at Season 8 has also been released, and it can be viewed below.
“From Season 1, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said in a statement. “Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.”
Harmon added, “Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty. Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.”

“I couldn’t be prouder to have taken this baton pass of a lifetime during Rick and Morty’s fourth season and get us to Season 10," Marder also said. "Getting to go beyond that now is such a gift I can’t wait to give our fans. Rick and Morty – a hundred years – forever!”
Harmon co-created the series with Justin Roiland, who also originally provided the voice of the show's titular characters. Roiland's involvement with the series ended after six seasons due to allegations of domestic violence made against him, though he declared them to be "false and defamatory" after the associated criminal charges against him were dropped. In any case, Rick and Morty moved forward without Roiland, with Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, respectively, taking over the voice roles of Rick and Morty starting with Season 8.
Fans Accepted the Change in Voice Actors
Recasting lead characters can sometimes lead to big problems for long-running shows, so an extensive search was launched to finding the right voice actors to help make the transition as seamless as possible. After Season 8 hit the air, Harmon was able to breathe a sigh of relief. He admitted that there were concerns that the show wouldn't be embraced by fans with the change, but he was satisfied with the reception to the newest season.
"That’s my perception," Harmon said of fans accepting the new voice actors, per Variety. "That the goal was accomplished or those that wanted it accomplished, that they’re like, 'I can’t tell the difference. The characters are the characters, let’s move on.' As far as I can tell, we’re past it. It worked, we transitioned to a new era and if the show sucks from here forward, it’s for the usual reasons any show can suck. Not because of these dramatic events."
Rick and Morty will return with Season 8 in 2025.
