Guy Ritchie is set to direct Road House 2, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Jake Gyllenhaal on board to reprise his role as Dalton, Deadline has confirmed.
Plot details for the sequel are under wraps. News of the project was first announced at Amazon’s inaugural Upfronts presentation. Will Beall is penning the script, with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner producing for Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gyllenhaal and Josh McLaughlin of Nine Stories Productions. Ivan Atkinson will executive produce.
Ritchie takes the directorial reins from Doug Liman, who was open about his frustrations regarding Amazon MGM’s decision to release his Road House straight to streaming. The film nonetheless went on to big success upon its SXSW premiere, with nearly 80 million viewers in its first eight weeks on Prime Video.
Pic reunites Ritchie and Gyllenhaal, who previously worked together on Amazon MGM’s action-thriller, Guy Ritchie’s the Covenant. Also back in business with the studio is Roven, who produced Amazon MGM’s Chris Pratt sci-fi thriller Mercy, an AI-themed title due for release in theaters on January 23, 2026. The Gyllenhaal-led Road House put a new spin on a 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze as a tough bouncer hired to tame a dirty bar.
Entering production this spring on the second season of his hit Netflix series The Gentlemen, Ritchie recently unveiled the Paramount+ crime drama Mobland, starring Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, to critical acclaim. His film Fountain of Youth for Apple TV+ and Skydance, starring John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Eiza Gonzalez, and Domhnall Gleeson, is due for a streaming release on May 23. Other upcoming projects for the filmmaker include Wife & Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins, as well as the Prime Video series Young Sherlock.
Puck’s Matt Belloni was first to report on Ritchie’s Road House negotiations.
