Ryan Coogler, 39, Shares Major 'Black Panther 3' Update

Ryan Coogler elevated to a new level of stardom this year thanks to the release of Sinners, which has quadrupled its budget at the box office and earned rave reviews from critics and audiences. Many fans were introduced to Coogler via Black Panther, the 2018 MCU film starring Chadwick Boseman that earned over $1.3 billion and is well-regarded as one of the best Marvel movies. Coogler also returned to direct the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and now he has just dropped a major update on his future MCU plans. Coogler caught up with Deadline recently at the world premiere of Ironheart, the MCU Disney+ series that he executive produced, and when asked where he was at on Black Panther 3, he simply said, “Working. We’re working.”

Fans had speculated about whether Black Panther 3 would be the next film from Coogler following his massive success with Sinners, but it sounds like he’s headed back to the MCU for one more round in Wakanda before jumping into another project. However, whatever comes next in the Black Panther franchise will likely take place after the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which gives him plenty of time to iron out the story. It has been confirmed that legendary actor Denzel Washington will star in the film, although it’s unclear who he’ll play. Washington spilled the beans on his part during the Gladiator II press tour before producer Nate Moore clarified that his involvement was only a hope and not official. However, Coogler recently confirmed his role in the film while speaking to NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.
