Legendary Entertainment has officially enlisted a Grammy-winning rapper to join highly anticipated Street Fighter movie, based on Capcom’s popular video game series. At the moment, the project currently has no official release date yet.
Who is joining the Street Fighter movie cast as Balrog?
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been tapped to portray the role of disgraced boxer Balrog, who’s described the bodyguard of the villain. The character was previously played by Grand L. Bush in the 1994 adaptation, and Michael Clarke Duncan in 2009’s The Legend of Chun-Li. Jackson is reportedly planning to do his own stunts for the project. This marks the rapper-actor’s latest high-profile movie, after previously starring in 2023’s Expend4bles and the Escape Plan franchise.
The upcoming Street Fighter movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) from a screenplay written by Dalan Musson. The game follows an ensemble of fighters, one of which is Chun-Li, as they battle it out in a one-on-one global fighting tournament. The ensemble cast will also include Andrew Koji (Snake Eyes, Warrior) as Ryu, Noah Centineo (The Recruit, Warfare) as Ken, Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Fast X), former WWE champ Roman Reigns (Hobbs & Shaw), Callina Liang (Presence) as Chun-Li and Orville Peck as Vega.
Sakurai is no stranger to adapting video games, as he previously directed episodes of the Peacock series Twisted Metal. Further details about the project’s plot are still under wraps. Before Sakurai boarded the project, Talk to Me and Bring Her Back directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou were previously enlisted to direct the movie.
