Jordan Peele is returning to the horror genre with another eerie story that’s sure to haunt moviegoers long after they leave the theater. As one of cinema’s leading social critics, Peele has now turned his satirical eye to the intense and demanding world of football in Him. The movie, which is due out this fall, exposes the dark underbelly of the beloved American sport. Ahead, we break down everything we know so far about Him.
When does it release?
The film will release in theaters on September 19.
What is the movie about?
The film follows a young and rising quarterback attempting to rebuild his football career. The official synopsis reads:
“Cameron Cade is a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life and identity to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma. Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White, a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White. But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.”
The first teaser trailer, which dropped on April 18, promises a bone-chilling story—literally. Helmet-clad skulls collide on a football field. A red laser scans the length of Cam’s body as he’s tied down to a bed of ice. Faces bearing all-white eyeballs contort demonically against the camera. If sports didn’t scare you before, they surely will here.
