As 2025 is coming to an end, HBO is starting to set its reservations for the next season of The White Lotus, as we are hearing Helena Bonham Carter is in early talks for a starring role. It is unknown where things stand in the dealmaking process, but sources say exclusive conversations are under way between both parties.
HBO had no comment.
If a deal does make, the Oscar-nominated star would be the first cast member on Season 4 of the Emmy-winning series. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, confirmed last month that casting had begun for the next installment of the HBO murder mystery anthology series created by Mike White. Per usual, plot details have not been revealed. As Deadline reported in September, Season 4 will be set in France. Production could start this spring.
The exact hotels that would serve as stand-ins for the show’s fictional White Lotus have not been confirmed yet, and, as Deadline reported, it is unclear whether any of them will be Four Seasons like in previous seasons. (If they are, the hotel chain’s Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat and Paris’ Hotel George V would be suitable candidates). HBO currently does not have a marketing agreement with the Four Seasons for Season 4.
Casting for The White Lotus always aims high and tends to attract a mix of top and rising talent. Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Sam Rockwell, Natasha Rothwell, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Sam Nivola and Patrick Schwarzenegger were among the stars of the Thailand-set most recent third season, which earned a whopping eight acting Emmy nominations.
As for Bonham Carter, if a deal does close, it would mark another high-profile series after her role as Princess Margaret on Seasons 3 and 4 of Netflix’s acclaimed drama The Crown, which earned her two Emmy nominations. The two-time Oscar nominee will next be seen in Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials Netflix mystery series.
