Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reuniting for horror-comedy Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are teaming up again — for what promises to be a scary-fun adventure.

The comedy duo, who costarred in TV's All That and Kenan & Kel in the '90s before making the movies Good Burger (1997) and its sequel, Good Burger 2 (2023), announced Tuesday that they will star in the upcoming film Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein. Production is set to begin in the summer.

They shared their news while cohosting Tuesday's episode of Prime Video's Good Sports With Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson. Thompson's longtime friend filled in for Hart, whom he said wasn't feeling well.

Just before they made their big announcement, Mitchell jokingly said the two were starring in the second season of Heated Rivalry. His cohost, Saturday Night Live star Thompson, quickly shut that down.

They were then joined by a Frankenstein-like character, which they shooed away. Thomspon joked that he had "the bolts in the wrong place."

As they signed off, Mitchell suggested that he, Thompson, and Hart all host the show in the future. It would be "the three Ks."

Then he thought better of it: "Yeah, I understand."

All jokes aside, the movie they announced is real. Both Thompson and Mitchell will produce as well as star in the movie inspired by the classic Abbott and Costello monster films, including 1948's Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. (The classic comedy duo also made films about their encounters with the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and more.)

The updated version of the story "follows two delivery drivers whose routine drop-off takes a terrifying turn when they arrive at a creepy, out-of-place castle and accidentally awaken Frankenstein's monster — turning an ordinary night into a fight for survival," according to a news release.

Thompson said he and Mitchell are looking forward to it.

"Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected," he said. "We're excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it."

In his own statement, Mitchell agreed.

"Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new," he said. "It's funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride."

The two last costarred in 2023's Good Burger 2, which was the sequel to their 1997 film about teens working for an old-school burger joint that became a cult classic.
