Shrek fans lose it as KPop Demon Hunters writers reveal Lord Farquaad project

Two of the co-writers behind KPop Demon Hunters wrote the screenplay for a movie focused on Lord Farquaad, giving fans hope for more films in the Shrek universe.

Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters is coming off a strong weekend at the Golden Globes, where it took home awards for Best Animated Motion Picture and Best Original Song.

Its success at Globes follows a record-breaking year in 2025, when it soared to the top of Netflix’s most-watched movies list and packed theaters at limited-time sing-along screenings across the United States.

The film is loved for its strong storytelling, quirky characters, and of course, its music… and two of the minds behind the famous flick have already put their talents toward another major franchise.

KPop Demon Hunters co-writers quietly developed a Lord Farquaad film

Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan are two of the writers responsible for bringing KPop Demon Hunters to life, co-writing the screenplay alongside Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.

Jimenez and McMechan are already hard at work on Tim Burton’s reboot of 1950’s classic horror film Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, they revealed they’ve got even more in store.

Specifically, THR says the duo developed a feature for DreamWorks Animation focusing on Shrek villain Lord Farquaad.

Thus far, not much is known about this project, and no further news has been revealed as to a possible release date or plot details.

That being said, this isn’t stopping excited fans from speculating what it could be about, theorizing that it must be a prequel, given the character’s fate in the first movie.
