‘Ted Lasso’ Targets August Return As Hannah Waddingham Teases “A Whole Different Deal” Season 4 With “Our Lady Greyhounds”

The summer window for the long-awaited return of Ted Lasso has been narrowed down. The fourth season of the hit soccer comedy, starring and executive produced by Jason Sudeikis, is expected to premiere in August.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham let slip the update while speaking with Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards on Sunday.

“It’s a whole different deal,” she said about the upcoming fourth season “with our Lady Greyhounds.” “I can’t wait for everyone to see what they’ve come up with.”

As to when that may be, “August, I think” she said, before turning to the side to ask, “Am I allowed to say August?” and couching it, “What if I’m wrong?”

Apple TV declined comment.

In Season 4, which has previously been announced to premiere in the summer, Ted Lasso (Sudeikis) returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team.

As Deadline has reported, Sudeikis has another three-season arc planned for the new story, just like he did for Ted’s coaching stint with Richmond’s men’s team.

So far, the series has been greenlighted through Season 4, but Waddingham would love to stay on for additional seasons.

“I’d do it until I’m walking on a Zimmer frame when I’m 80,” she said. “I love it. I love Rebecca Welton, my character, and the writing is so magnificent. Jason Sudeikis and the writers room, it’s like a finely tuned machine. And the life lessons that you realize that they’re just tipping in here and there, it’s brilliant.”

She also spoke of Rebecca being a boss lady who also is vulnerable.

“That’s what it’s given me that I had never had in anything else, the chance, even if you’re a six foot two woman in heels, of course there is the soft side, there’s a vulnerability, they are as easily shatterable. They gave me that, and I’ll be forever grateful.”

Currently in production in London, Season 4 reunites original cast members Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift who are all reprising their beloved original characters alongside new Season 4 additions including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.
