Tony Stark's marriage to Emma Frost is already paying off, as Iron Man learns of the mutant metal Mysterium, which they will use to defeat Feilong.
As Iron Man continues to wage his secret war against the evil Feilong, his new marriage to the X-Men's Emma Frost has provided him with invaluable inspiration to make his next armor his most powerful yet. Iron Man #10 sees Tony learn about Krakoa's very own mutant metal, mysterium, which could be exactly what Stark needs to finally take down Feilong for good.
Feilong, a high-ranking member of the mutantphobic agency Orchis responsible for the recent fall of Krakoa, has effectively destroyed Tony Stark's career. By stealing Stark Industries away from Iron Man and releasing the Stark Sentinels - mutant-killing Iron Man machines that are tarnishing his heroic name - Feilong has pushed Tony and the mutants together.
Since saving Emma Frost after the disastrous Hellfire Gala, the two heroes have been working side-by-side to take down Feilong, save War Machine, and destroy Orchis. In Invincible Iron Man #10, from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Juan Frigeri, Stark learns of mysterium after invading Feilong's mind with Emma during their Las Vegas wedding.
Mysterium Could Create Tony's Most Powerful Iron Man Armor Yet
Mysterium was first introduced in 2020's S.W.O.R.D. #1, created through an impressive mutant circuit organized by Abigail Brand. The circuit was able to travel past this universe's "Far Shore," a place beyond space and time, into the White Hot Room, where they created mysterium by condensing the elemental particles called kirbons. Brand and Krakoa then used the brand-new material to create an entirely new economy throughout the galaxies, officially making Earth the capital of the Sol galaxy. Mysterium was a corner point of the mutants' political power, and it stands to reason that even in the Fall of X, various galactic civilizations are still using "Sol" currency for their economy.
In Invincible Iron Man #10, Tony Stark is finally able to see the message his father Howard recorded for him when he and Frost telepathically dive into Feilong's mind, which is how he finds out about mysterium. The unique mysterium is impressively durable, very efficient at conducting electricity, is as strong as "secondary adamantium," and perhaps most importantly, it is incredibly radiation resistant. Feilong's main energy blast ability comes from his intentional exposure to cosmic radiation, so a mysterium armor could be the perfect defense against the villain. Since the discovery of mysterium, it has also been revealed that the mutant metal has strong anti-magic properties, being used to defeat magic villains like Dormammu and Selene several times.
Emma and Tony Will Travel to Space To Collect Mysterium
Tony is working incredibly hard on creating a new armor to defeat Feilong, but needs a proprietary new suit that Feilong doesn't have the rights to... and mysterium might be the answer he is looking for. With Krakoa overtaken by Orchis, Emma and Tony are not able to access Earth-bound mysterium, forcing them to think entirely outside the box. Krakoa not only gave a lot of mysterium to various galactic civilizations but stored the metal in random caches across the universe, meaning Tony and Emma are headed into space to collect this rare mutant material.
An armor made entirely out of mysterium would be nearly as strong as adamantium - a metal in very short supply on Earth - and would also be resistant to magic and powerful radiation, potentially making it one of Tony's most powerful suits yet. While Iron Man is seemingly at a low point in his heroic career, his new marriage to the iconic Emma Frost has inspired him to make a mysterium armor suit, which he will hopefully use to finally takedown Feilong
