A scene in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 1 reveals a new monster who is easily the strangest addition to Godzilla's Monsterverse.
A surprise Easter egg in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters exposed the strangest creature in Legendary’s Monsterverse. Though only a select few Titans have been shown onscreen in Godzilla and Kong’s Monsterverse movies, it’s no secret that dozens of giant monsters occupy the Earth. Several of them haven’t even been glimpsed yet.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters created a massive toybox for the Monsterverse to work with when it showed off monitor screens that teased the existence of multiple Titans. 11 of the Monsterverse Titans never appeared on screen, but their names were revealed, connecting them to mythological gods and monsters. Through projects like Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the Monsterverse has opportunities to dive deeper into the many mysterious Titans that roam the planet. Within its first two episodes, Apple TV+’s show shed light on some of the missing creatures that exist in Godzilla and Kong’s cinematic universe.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Confirms Bigfoot Is Monsterverse Canon
Monarch files spotted in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episode 1 unveil a curious monster sighting. A photograph among the files shows a humanoid creature in a snowy forest. Clearly, the photo is meant to serve as a reference to the famous Bigfoot “sightings” in real-life. Even Cate noted the resemblance, asking “is that Bigfoot?” Apparently, Monarch is suggesting that Bigfoot is real in Godzilla’s world. The idea of Bigfoot being one of the creatures of the MonsterVerse is surprising, considering how Bigfoot is typically portrayed. Though he’s been a cultural phenomenon for decades, he’s rarely viewed in the same lens as monsters like Godzilla, Kong, and King Ghidorah.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is available to stream on Apple TV+.
Of course, Bigfoot is hardly the first creature associated with a folk tale or an alleged monster sighting to be brought into the Monsterverse in some form. Like Bigfoot is now, the Loch Ness Monster is also Monsterverse canon via the reference to Leviathan in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The same is the case for Bunyip, a creature supposedly spotted multiple times in Australia during the 19th century. However, both of these are traditionally depicted as large creatures boasting monstrous characteristics. As a hairy, neanderthal-like figure not much bigger than a human, Bigfoot is an even more unique addition to the Monsterverse – and perhaps one of its most interesting creatures.
