Building on the success of its freshman run, Gen V is gearing up for production on its sophomore season.
The first season expanded The Boys universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes.
Season 2 of the show is set to commence its filming process, bringing back the thrilling saga of the young superheroes at Godolkin University.
CoveredGeekly reports that Gen V Season 2 will film in Toronto, Ontario, commencing in mid to late April. The Boys also primarily filmed in Toronto, and so did the first season of Gen V, which was filmed under the working title “Varsity”.
“Nero”: What it could mean for Gen V
The working title for the second season of Gen V is “Nero”.
The word is of Italian origin, which means “Black”.
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was a Roman Emperor who reigned for 14 years, only to die because of a revolt stirred by one of his own governors.
Nero had to flee Rome in response to the revolt, which seems oddly similar to Black Noir going AWOL after Soldier Boy’s return in The Boys Season 3.
After his death, several impostors of his likeness appeared all over his empire. Sound familiar? The fourth season of The Boys will feature the return of Black Noir to replace Earving, who died at the hands of Homelander.
Interestingly, in the comics, Black Noir was eventually revealed to be an enhanced Homelander clone created to take the real Homelander down in case he ever went rogue – which is exactly what he seems to be doing in the live-action series.
Although it’s unclear, “Nero” could potentially be a reference to this storyline that – if adapted – may not even come to fruition until The Boys Season 5, as it would most likely be set up in Season 4 and Gen V Season 2.
However, it has been theorised here at CoveredGeekly in the past that another super-powered character from The Boys universe may end up donning the Black Noir suit instead of a Homelander clone: Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy.
One question left currently unanswered is what’s happening to Soldier Boy, who was captured by Grace Mallory in Season 3 – somebody who makes it her life mission to stop Homelander and the corruption behind Vought.
As per the latest update, filming for Gen V Season 2 is scheduled to start in the next 2-3 weeks.
Speaking with Arc Studio, Breaking Bad Screenwriter/Producer Thomas Schnauz revealed that he had joined the team at Gen V, and offered a production update:
“I’m working on a show called Gen V which is aired on Amazon. I did not work on season one. I’m currently helping them with season two with breaking story, and they start shooting not too long up in Canada.“
“They’re gonna start production in probably 2 or 3 weeks.“
Events from the first season of the show set the stage for the fourth season of The Boys, which is set to premiere on June 13.
This interconnected universe suggests that Season 2 of Gen V will also have implications for The Boys Season 5, creating an interplay between the two series.
While official details about the cast of Season 2 are yet to be released, fans can expect the return of most cast members from Season 1.
The cast includes Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Chance Perdomo as Andre Anderson, Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, Lizzie Broadway as Emma Meyer, Asa German as Sam Riordan, Derek Luh and London Thor as Jordan Li.
