John Carter “is coming” in new cryptic site launched by creator

The character’s potential return in a game, series, or movie has been teased through a mysterious new site launched by the creator Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc.

You can check out the brand-new John Carter website, featuring a countdown timer.

This development comes after the rights to the character went back to Burroughs’ estate following the commercial failure of the 2012 Disney film adaptation.

The film, directed by Andrew Stanton, did not perform well at the box office, leading to speculation about the character’s future.

Given the success of recent sci-fi adaptations like Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune, it’s possible that John Carter‘s return could be in a game format, which is seen as a less risky and more immersive option compared to films.

Despite its initial flop status, John Carter has gained a cult following.

The film’s unique take on the Barsoomian universe, with its goofy science and the civilized way in which all parties agree that physics doesn’t really matter, appealed to fans of the original novels and those who enjoyed stories where the rules of physics were flexible.

The new John Carter project has not been announced yet.
