Mark Wahlberg provides an encouraging update on the status of Uncharted 2. Uncharted is a 2022 adventure film about a man named Nathan Drake who is recruited by treasure hunter Victor Sullivan to find the fortune of Magellan. In addition to Wahlberg, the movie also featured a cast of Tom Holland, Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Steven Waddington.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Wahlberg reveals an update for Uncharted 2. According to the actor, the studio recently called him to say “start growing your mustache,” because the film’s script is in. Wahlberg did not appear to know much by way of specific story details for Uncharted. Check it out below:
Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in. I can't grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, "Start growing your mustache. It's gonna take awhile." I'd be interested to see what the story's like, and where that adventure takes us. But I'm excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we'll see.
Will Uncharted 2 Finally Happen?
As Wahlberg alludes to, audiences did take well to the first Uncharted film. During its run in 2022, Uncharted grossed over $407 million worldwide. Uncharted’s critical ratings left something to be desired — garnering a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes — but ended up with a 90% audience approval rating. This score and gross is particularly impressive given the film’s basis in a popular video game franchise.
Though Wahlberg’s update would seem to be a step in the right direction for Uncharted 2, although there is no official word on the sequel. One of Wahlberg’s other projects, The Six Billion Dollar Man, recently made headlines for not having studio support, which contradicted the actor’s earlier optimism about the future of the project, as he had made a statement in December that heavily implied a deal brewing with Skydance.
Although Wahlberg has recently been optimistic when providing film updates, there has been no official word from the studio regarding Uncharted 2. Uncharted’s post-credits scene leaves the room open for a sequel, and there is plenty of game material to adapt, so hopefully Wahlberg will soon be returning to the role of Sully.
