Victorious Spinoff Series in the Works at Nickelodeon With 1 Returning Star

The Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious is getting a spinoff series featuring one original star. The news comes after the original show ended its run on Nickelodeon 12 years ago.

Originally, Victorious ran for four seasons between 2010 and 2013. Per Deadlineit now has a second spinoff in development with Daniella Monet set to reprise her role as Trina Vega. The project is in development under the working title Hollywood Arts, which could end up changing. Casting is now said to be underway to find co-stars for Monet, and as of now, no other cast members from Victorious are reported as being involved. It would seem that special appearances are not out of the question, but nothing is confirmed.

In the spinoff, Trina will be "returning to her old stomping grounds as the newest teacher at Hollywood’s most elite performing arts school." Money will be serving as a producer for the project in addition to starring. Victorious writer Jake Farrow is also returning as a writer and executive producer, serving in those roles with Samantha Martin (Henry DangerThe Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder).

Who Else Might Return for Hollywood Arts?

Controversial TV producer Dan Schneider created the original series, but he will not be involved with the spinoff. Schneider's run working for Nickelodeon came to an end in 2018 following allegations of mistreatment towards cast and crew members working on his shows. Some of these allegations were detailed in the docuseries Quiet on Set. Notably, Schneider is suing the producers of the docuseries for defamation.

The new report speculates that it's likely Victoria Justice could return for a special appearance in Hollywood Arts after starring in the titular role in Victorious. In the original show, Justice's Tori is Trina's younger sister, so there'd be good reason for the two characters to stil be in touch. Fans may also naturally be wondering if Ariana Grande will be involved in some way, given how much busier she is these days. Grande has already starred in one Victorious spinoff series, though she will certainly be in much higher demand following her recent Oscar nomination for Wicked, potentially making scheduling a major issue.

The original show was set at Hollywood Arts High School and primarily followed Justice's Tori Vega, an aspiring pop singer. Other stars included Leon Thomas III as Andre Harris, Matt Bennett as Robbie Shapiro, Elizabeth Gillies as Jade West, Ariana Grande as Cat Valentine, and Avan Jogia as Beck Oliver.

In 2013, Nick premiered Sam & Cat, a show that served as a spinoff of both Victorious and iCarly. It united Grande's Cat alongside Jennette McCurdy's Sam Puckett, picking up with the two becoming unlikely roommates. Amid reports of Grande and McCurdy having friction on the set, the series was canceled after just one season.
