Matthew Lillard In Talks To Join ‘Carrie’ Amazon Series

EXCLUSIVE: After landing roles in the second seasons of two hit series — Daredevil: Born Again from Marvel and Amazon MGM’s Cross  Matthew Lillard has entered talks to join the latter studio’s series Carrie, based on the iconic debut novel from Stephen King, sources tell Deadline.

No word on the role to be played by Lillard. The project reunites him with Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of UsherMidnight Mass), his director on another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, which won the coveted People’s Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival, and is slated for release via Neon on June 6.

Lillard is the third actor to come aboard following relative newcomer Summer H. Howell, who plays the title character, and Siena Agudong, who will portray Sue Snell. Hailing from writer, executive producer and showrunner Flanagan, who will also direct select episodes, the show reimagines the story of Carrie White, a a shy, bullied teenage girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers, while contending with abuse at school and at home, under the scrutiny of her fanatically religious mother.

The show comes on the heels of four Carrie films, the most famous being Brian De Palma’s from 1976, which starred Sissy Spacek. It’ll consist of eight episodes and has come together quite quickly following Flanagan’s opening of a writers room in late fall, getting the official greenlight in April. Trevor Macy will also exec produce, with Amazon MGM Studios producing.

Recently entering production on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Lillard’s other upcoming projects for film include a return to the Scream franchise with Scream 7 and Blumhouse/Universal’s sequel to the hit horror video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s. The actor is repped by Verve, Strand Entertainment, and Heller Law.
