A sequel to Takashi Yamazaki's award-winning Japanese Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus One is officially in the works at Toho and will be released sometime in the near future! About the Godzilla Minus One sequel
After his film Godzilla Minus One broke numerous records for Toho and performed very well at the international box office, Takashi Yamazaki was tapped once again to direct the next Godzilla film! His plans are to continue the story from where Minus One left off. The sequel will also feature more monsters - not just Godzilla!
Official Plot Synopsis
Toho have not yet revealed the official plot synopsis for the Godzilla Minus One sequel, however we know the film will be a direct sequel to the last film and it will feature more (currently unknown) monsters in addition to Gojira! Once an official synopsis is revealed, this will be updated.
Production Updates
- November, 2024 it was announced that Takashi Yamazaki would direct another Godzilla movie for Toho.
- February, 2025 it was first announced that a sequel to Godzilla Minus One was officially in development - and this time, with a much bigger budget!
- April, 2025 Toho announce big plans for future Godzilla films - the Minus One sequel being one (of many) new Godzilla movies in the pipeline at Toho.
- June, 2025 it was discovered the Godzilla Minus One sequel would begin filming August 2025.

Godzilla's New Design
The new design for Godzilla in the Minus One sequel has not yet been revealed. However, a recent teaser for the new 70th anniversary Godzilla ride attraction (which was also directed and produced by Takashi Yamazaki) featured a revised design of his Minus One Gojira - with altered dorsal plates, slightly changed facial features and a new green atomic ray. This is not necessarily an indicator of what the new Godzilla will look like - but it certainly could be close.
What is the Godzilla Minus One sequel release date?
Currently, Toho have not yet revealed their intended release date for the Godzilla Minus One sequel, however filming is scheduled to begin August 2025 and conclude by end of the year. The release date window is expected to land anywhere between Fall and Winter of 2026.
