After Two Decades Apart, Charlie Kaufman And Spike Jonze Eye A Reunion

More than twenty years ago, Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman worked together on two incredible movies that made their careers: Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. They’ve not done any projects together since, but fans will be happy to know that could be about to change.

According to World of Reel, who captured a conversation Kaufman had at Mostra de São Paulo in Brazil, he confirmed that he’s in early conversations for a reunion with Jonze. There are no details on the potential project, but this is good news all around.

Jonze hasn’t directed a film since Her in 2013. That one, I believe, was slightly ahead of its time and has only gotten better with age. Kaufman’s last movie was 2020’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things.  Kaufman was in Brazil presenting his short film, How to Shoot a Ghost.  He also is no longer attached to the AI movie he was working on with Moneyball director Bennett Miller.

As for the project that was supposed to be Kaufman’s next, Later the War, it had to be shut down due to financial difficulties. It would’ve starred Tessa Thompson, Eddie Redmayne, and Patsy Ferran.
