Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do today! “Phineas and Ferb” returned to San Diego Comic-Con on Friday for the first time in a decade to celebrate the show’s recent revival. Among the tidbits coming out of the show panel: The next batch of new episodes are set to return to Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2026.
“Phineas and Ferb” wrapped its original run (starting in 2007) in 2015. That year, show creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh, along with much of the cast, said farewell to fans at Comic-Con via a panel organized by TV Guide Magazine and moderated by Michael Schneider.
Schneider, now Variety‘s executive editor, TV, was also back to moderate Friday’s “Phineas and Ferb” revival panel, celebrating the show’s recent return on June 5 (starting with ten new episodes) and speaking to Povenmire (also the voice of “Dr. Doofenshmirtz”), Marsh (also the voice of “Major Monogram”), Ashley Tisdale (“Candace”), Vincent Martella (“Phineas”) David Errigo Jr. (“Ferb”), Alyson Stoner (“Isabella”) and Dee Bradley Baker (“Perry”).
On stage, Povenmire and Marsh were also set to discuss the new YouTube series “Cartoonified with Phineas and Ferb,” which features the title characters interviewing real-life celebrities, who appear drawn in the show’s unique animation style.
The panel audience got to see a world premiere of the shows, which kick off with guest Kylie Cantrall (“Descendants: The Rise of the Red”). In Cantral’s episode, “Phineas and Ferb invent a time-travelling pocket watch and invite ‘Descendants’ star Kylie Cantrall on an adventure through the ages when a wooly mammoth crashes the party.”
Other guest stars set to appear in the first season of “Cartoonified” include Mark Rober, Avantika, Brittany Broski, Xochitl Gomez and Walker Scobell.
Also set to be unveiled: Disney Branded Television has unveiled a TikTok AR filter featuring “Phineas and Ferb characters.” Here’s how they describe it: “This interactive mini game will enable users to step into an Agent P suit and navigate a booby-trapped temple on their way to saving Phineas and Ferb from the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Users will be able to jump over obstacles, dodge baby heads and corn, plus collect electric guitars, fedoras, hot dogs, skateboards, and more for points. Assorted ‘Phineas and Ferb’ characters will be making cameos along the way.”
As Variety previously announced, at the panel a fan was set to win a set of the first-ever Funko Pop! line inspired by the series and receive the set before they are made available this fall. (The Pops are currently on pre-order).
And outside the convention hall, the “Phineas and Ferb” pop-up photo experience — located next to the Omni Hotel — is open, giving fans a chance to snap a pic inside a life-sized “Phineas and Ferb” Whack-A-Pest game. The activation is up until Sunday.
Povenmire and Marsh produced 126 episodes of “Phineas and Ferb” during its original run on Disney Channel and Disney XD, as well as multiple series and movies — not to mention a live touring show, junior novels, apparel, toys, video games and more.
After that, the duo followed it up with “Milo Murphy’s Law,” which wound up being set in the same universe. Then, Povenmire and Marsh started to move on to their own projects. But Disney brass noted the lingering “Phineas and Ferb” social footprint, its viewership on Disney+ and its continued success in the consumer product space — and that led the talk of a revival. In 2023, Disney Branded Television topper Ayo Davis announced a 40-episode pickup of the show, which embarked on telling stories about another 104 days of Summer vacation.
