Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried face off in gripping new trailer for ‘The Housemaid’: Everything to know about the upcoming thriller

Sydney Sweeney appears to have a major mess on her hands in the upcoming thriller The Housemaid. On Tuesday, Lionsgate released the first trailer, showcasing a tense face-off between Sweeney and co-star Amanda Seyfried in the Paul Feig-directed film. Seyfried previously told Gold Derby working with Feig was a blast: "He brings out the darkest, funniest sh-t and is just like, 'Let's try it.' That was liberating."

Below is everything to know about the film.

WHAT'S THE PLOT?

Desperate for a fresh start, Millie (Sweeney) takes a live-in job as a housemaid for the affluent Winchester couple — Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar). What seems like the perfect opportunity soon takes a dark turn. Millie is forced to live in the tiny attic of the lavish home and begins to realize that beneath the polished surface of the Winchesters’ estate lie dangerous secrets.

WHO'S IN THE CAST?

Besides Sweeney, Seyfried, and Sklenar, the film also features Elizabeth Perkins as Evelyn Winchester, Andrew’s mother, and Michele Morrone as the handsome groundskeeper. Both Perkins and Morrone recently collaborated with Feig on Another Simple Favor.

Seyfried told Gold Derby how much she enjoyed working alongside Sweeney: “The Sydney and me team works. I hope it works for people, but for me it worked. It was really fun,” she said.

WHO ELSE IS BEHIND THE FILM?

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Freida McFadden, with a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine. McFadden, Seyfried, Feig, and Sweeney also serve as producers.

WHEN IS THE RELEASE DATE?

The film will be released in theaters on Christmas Day.
