NEED TO KNOW

  • Oscar Isaac revealed that he was open to the idea of reprising his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise

  • He last played the role in 2019, but he would be interested in returning "if there was something good to do with that."

  • Before any Star Wars return, Isaac is headed to the big screen in Netflix's new, heavily buzzed movie, Franekstein

Oscar Isaac is open to the idea of returning to the Star Wars franchise... with one caveat.

The 46-year-old actor brought Poe Dameron, a plucky pilot for the Resistance, to life in a trio of movies within the franchise, starting with 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He returned for 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Isaac's last appearance in the franchise was in the animated series Star Wars Resistance, where he voiced Poe across several episodes.

Nearly a decade after he first stepped into the role alongside the likes of franchise additions Daisy RidleyAdam Driver and John Boyega and staples such as Harrison FordMark Hamill and the late Carrie Fisher, Isaac told Variety that he would be open to reprising his role.

However, suiting up as Poe again won't be a cash grab. He implied to the outlet that he was open to the idea of getting back into character and stressed what it would take for him to agree to an offer. “Yeah, I’d be a Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that," he told Variety.

He wouldn't be the first actor from his trilogy of films to return to the franchise. Ridley has already agreed to reprise her role as Rey in a mysterious new movie in the Star Wars universe.

Speaking on a panel for Deadline in 2020, Isaac previously expressed respect for his past experience as Poe. “I enjoyed the challenge of those films and working with a very large group of incredible artists and actors, prop makers, set designers, and all that was really fun,” he said, jokingly adding at the time that he would "probably" return "if I need another house or something."

Before he could focus on any sort of Star Wars return, Isaac is gearing up for the impending release of Frankenstein, the larger-than-life Netflix movie that he stars in alongside Jacob Elordi. Isaac will bring the iconic monster's creator, Victor Frankenstein, to life in the live-action adaptation of Mary Shelley's iconic 1818 novel from director Guillermo del Toro.

“I saw him much more as an artist than as a scientist,” Isaac told Variety about the role. “I watched a video of Prince going to the [2007] Super Bowl in order to rehearse. And I just basically stole his walk when he’s going up to the stage with his hands behind the back.”
