HBO still loves “I Love L.A.” After premiering just three episodes of the first season, the network has already renewed the Rachel Sennott comedy series for a second season.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, revealed the news at his banner’s press presentation in New York City on Thursday morning. The confirmation on “I Love L.A.” was disclosed alongside a renewal for the Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin conspiracy series “The Chair Company” — another freshman comedy currently airing new episodes, which is also returning for a second season.
“We’re thrilled by the incredible response to ‘The Chair Company’ and ‘I Love L.A.’ debuts,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP of HBO Programming and head of HBO and HBO Max comedy series. “Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way. We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, Rachel and their exceptional teams.”
Per HBO, “I Love L.A.” is “among the fastest growing” of its original comedies, averaging nearly two million cross-platform viewers in the U.S.
Along with starring, “I Love L.A.” is created and executive produced by Sennott. Emma Barrie, Aida Rodgers, Max Silvestri and Lorene Scafaria are also executive producers. Directors on the first season include Sennott, Scafaria, Bill Benz and Kevin Bray.
“I Love L.A.” is currently airing new episodes on Sunday. The Season 1 finale will bow on Dec. 21. Sennott plays Maia, an aspiring talent manager who must juggle various relationships, including with her college bud turned rising star Tallulah (Odessa A’zion) and her schoolteacher boyfriend Dylan (Josh Hutcherson). Jordan Firstman and True Whitaker also star.
