Ahead of the release for the first trailer for Scary Movie 6, a potential list of films that the movie will be parodying has hit the internet. According to writer and star Marlan Wayans, the first trailer for Scary Movie 6 will be released on Friday, February 27 alongside Scream 7 in theaters.
There are a few reasons that Scary Movie 6 is a promising prospect, the foremost of which being the returning core cast of Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans, who have not starred together in a Scary Movie since the 2001 sequel, which is also the last film int he franchise that the Wayans served as writers on. Additional actors from the franchise such as Jon Abrahams, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri, Dave Sheridan, Anthony Anderson, and Chris Elliott will reprising their roles in Scary Movie 6.
Reports indicate that Scary Movie 6 will be parodying movies such as Sinners, Weapons, and the A Quiet Place franchise
The second is the state of the horror movie industry itself, which has evolved quite a bit since Scary Movie 5 in 2013, which primarily riffed on Paranormal Activity and the found-footage genre in addition to other relatively standard horror fare such as Sinister, The Evil Dead, and Insidious, and the admittedly subversive The Cabin in the Woods.
Compare that with the three films mentioned as being spoofed in Scary Movie 6: Sinners, Weapons, and A Quiet Place. The first, Sinners, is a contender for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. The second, Weapons, has been hailed as one of the best movies of 2025 — Jason Bateman said it was his favorite of the year — and earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Amy Madigan. Then there’s A Quiet Place, which has grossed around $900 million at the global box office across three films and will surely cross the billion mark when Part III releases in 2027 (allegedly).
The horror genre is an entirely different place than it was a decade ago, which provides a runway for comedic innovation that Scary Movie 6 will hopefully capitalize on.
