Disney has confirmed that Kathryn Hahn will return as Agatha Harkness in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries in 2024, releasing as part of Phase 5 of the MCU. Kathryn Hahn first appeared as Salem witch Agatha Harkness in 2021's WandaVision, introduced as an antagonist who was interested in stealing the power of the Scarlet Witch for herself. At the end of WandaVision, however, Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff defeated Agatha, trapping her as Agnes, her nosy neighbor persona. Despite this, Hahn was confirmed to be returning in Marvel Studios' Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and though a specific release date has yet to be announced, audiences don't have to wait long for more Agatha Harkness.
During a press release on December 4, 2023, Disney confirmed several upcoming projects set to release on Disney+ in 2024. As well as revealing more about January's Echo series, which will star Alaqua Cox after her debut as Maya Lopez in Hawkeye, and announcing the animated X-Men '97's release in 2024, Disney also confirmed that Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has a 2024 release date. This press release didn't include a specific release date, yet after a series of delays, it's exciting to know that the Kathryn Hahn-led series will be debuting in Phase 5, particularly after recent speculation has hinted at the potential storyline and cast for Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
Marvel fans can also look forward to the highly anticipated “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” series arriving in 2024, with Kathryn Hahn reprising her fan-favourite role of Westview's resident Darkhold reader, Agatha.
What We Know About Agatha: Darkhold Diaries
Marvel Studios first confirmed the development of Kathryn Hahn's WandaVision spinoff in November 2021, with Jac Schaeffer returning from the Phase 4 series to write and executive produce the upcoming follow-up. Initially, the series was titled Agatha: House of Harkness, though this was changed to Agatha: Coven of Chaos in July 2022, and then again to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries in September 2023, causing some confusion. The series is expected to consist of nine episodes, and will introduce a new coven of witches to the MCU, while also marking the returns of several actors from WandaVision as the residents of Westview, New Jersey.
Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, Miles Gutierrez-Riley and Patti LuPone have been cast in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, with Zamata confirmed to be Marvel Comics witch Jennifer Kale, and LuPone revealing herself to be Sicilian witch Lilia Calderu. Popular theories have suggested that Joe Locke may be portraying Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch, though this is yet to be confirmed. Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will also include new original songs composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who brought "Agatha All Along" to life in WandaVision, so the 2024 series will certainly be one to watch.
Release. Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2024 as a lead-up to Halloween, and will consist of nine episodes.September 19, 2024
