Following the end of The Flash, Grant Gustin's possible DC Universe future has received a hopeful update. Gustin led nine seasons of The Flash as Barry Allen, with his DC series being responsible for ending the Arrowverse. While Gustin has no DC projects currently in his future, fans continue to ask for the actor to join the DCU's upcoming movies as the Flash, and that has just become more possible.
On Threads, James Gunn revealed that he wants to work with Gustin in the future.
Gunn was asked by a fan to cast Gustin in the DCU, with the director confirming yet again that the actor is not currently in a DC project. However, the director concluded on a hopeful note, saying, "But of course I’d love to work with him at some point." That leaves the door open for Gustin to join the new DC Universe in the future.
Which DCU Character Grant Gustin Could Play
The Flash Is Not The Only DC Hero For Gustin
While Gustin as Barry Allen is an easy answer, that is not the only role the actor could play. Taking a page from the Arrowverse's The Flash, Gustin could appear as the Jay Garrick version of the Flash in the DCU, just like 1990s Flash actor John Wesley Shipp did in The Flash. Gustin's Jay Garrick could be part of Justice Society of America movies set in the past, when the character was still young.
On Twitter, Gunn revealed that he is a major fan of the DC Comics story "Strange Adventures," saying, "This is the best, most complex and yet elegant, “superhero” story I’ve read in years." The Sci-Fi story hinges on an emotional plot, and Gustin has shown over nine seasons of The Flash and several Arrowverse crossovers that he could hit the necessary notes to make a DCU adaptation of the comic book story resonate. As such, Grant Gustin's possible DCU role could be that of Adam Strange, the hero of two worlds.
