The Rings of Power Season 2's Release Window Confirmed

The latest update for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power confirms the expected release window for Season 2 of the series.

After the second season wrapped filming in 2023, it has remained unclear when new episodes of The Rings of Power would be premiering on Prime Video. There were rumors that the new season could end up getting pushed back further as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes holding up so many productions, and there has been no telling when Season 2 could potentially debut. However, per a recent report from THR, it's been confirmed that Season 2 will debut sometime in 2024 on Prime Video, assuaging concerns that the next season would be pushed to 2025.

The news of The Rings of Power having its release window confirmed was part of a report that also suggested that preliminary work was beginning on a third season. As of now, Season 3 has not been officially announced by Amazon, but the showrunners for The Rings of Power - Patrick McKay and JD Payne - have struck a new, three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios to develop more content. It's also been reported that the plan is for the production to move from the UK production facility Bray Studios to Shepperton Studios.

Will Season 3 Be Announced Before Season 2's Premiere?

Amazon MGM Studios' head of television, Vernon Sanders, confirmed the new deal. Though he didn't state specifically that a third season of The Rings of Power was going to happen, he touted the success of the series, suggesting the company was satisfied with how things are going on the show. It remains to be seen if a renewal announcement will actually happen before Season 2 arrives, or if Amazon will wait for the new episodes to premiere before fully committing to a third season.

“We began this remarkable journey with JD and Patrick more than five and a half years ago and have never looked back,” Sanders said. “We continue to be amazed by the scope and scale of their vision and the enormous global success achieved by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in its record-breaking first season. We can’t wait for Prime Video customers to experience the epic adventure and high-stakes drama that JD and Patrick are continuing to build throughout season two and beyond. Naturally, the studio is thrilled to extend our overall deal with these brilliant creative minds as they continue to deliver on their passion for great storytelling.”

The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is streaming on Prime Video with Season 2 expected to arrive later in 2024.
