Spider-Man 4 will see Tom Holland reprise his role as the iconic wall-crawler. While the project is yet to receive an official release date from Marvel Studios, reports suggest that the film could hit theaters in 2026.
The news comes by way of Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman. "As expected, Spider-Man 4 will now film next year and is slated to release [in] July 2026 between Doomsday and Secret Wars," Richtman said via his official Patreon account. He also revealed that the highly anticipated film will likely be "another multiverse movie."
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently provided an update about the film, saying that the script is currently in the works. "Amy [Pascal] and I are working on it," he said. "We have writers who are going to be delivering us a draft relatively soon." Despite the progress on the script, the movie is still in need of a director as Jon Watts, who directed the first three Spider-Man films for the MCU, is currently busy with other projects.
Several directors have reportedly been in talks to direct Spider-Man 4,including Sam Raimi, the director of the original Spider-Man trilogy. Other names that have been mentioned are John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Jon Favreau. Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) and Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) were previously attached to the project but eventually dropped out.
Bad Boys 4 Directors Could Direct Spider-Man 4
Bad Boys: Ride or Die directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah recently addressed rumors about their potential involvement in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. "It came out of nowhere, because we've got the Sony bosses here, and they didn't tell us anything!" El Arbi said. "I'm a superfan of Spider-Man, so you can imagine, when I was reading that, I was like, 'Whoa - that would be cool,'" Fallah added.
While the plot is still largely unknown, previous reports suggest that Peter Parker may play a lesser role in the story compared to his superhero alter ego. According to insider Alex Perez, the first three films focused on Peter's origin within the MCU, which leads to the next chapter in his life. "The idea now moving forward is to give him a sense of independence," Perez said.
"In his mind, Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man lives on," Perez continued. "Since he has either lost or detached himself from everyone he's ever loved, all he has to keep him going is being Spider-Man, whether the city loves him for it or not. As the title of Spider-Man continues to consume Peter's life little by little, Peter Parker will take a back seat and continue to fade from existence slowly."
All three Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland are available to stream on Disney+.
