Tim Burton took us back to the Wonka factory in 2005 with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, his underrated sequel to the classic film starring Gene Wilder. With Johnny Depp in the lead role this time, the sequel was a more modern adaptation of the 1971 film. Only this time, there were better special effects.
One unique fact about the film is a sequence featuring squirrels. The script called for squirrels breaking nuts in front of the cast and a huge stage. The CGI didn't look great, and Burton decided real squirrels had to be used. Not only that, but they had to be trained from birth. The result was an unnerving scene in which Veruca Salt gets attacked by squirrels — which does use CGI, but it's not terrible.
