Outer Banks Final Season Now in Production for 2026 Debut

Kicking off the official first day of summer, Netflix today announced that the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Outer Banks has begun production in Charleston, South Carolina. Season 5 of the fan-favorite drama is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2026.

The returning series regulars include Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Drew Starkey, Carlacia Grant, Austin North, and Fiona Palomo. J. Anthony Crane and Cullen Moss will also return for Season 5 and have been upped to series regulars.

Across its four seasons, Outer Banks has received nearly 200 million views and has been featured on the Top 10 English TV List 25 times.

“We are over the moon to be setting out on one last trip with the Pogues,” creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke told the Netflix blog Tudum. “Being back on set with our cast for this final round is nothing short of bittersweet and surreal. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store this season — it’s going to be a wild ride…”

The season four finale, which is the first feature-length episode of the show, “sets the stage for an epic fifth and final season,” said Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Burke previously. The OBX creators discussed the series’ final season in a letter to fans back in November 2024, reflecting on what working on the series for the past seven years has meant to them.

It all started when they came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. “That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time,” the creators said in the letter.

They added, “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.”

With production on Season 5 underway, the endgame is in sight. Season 4’s main treasure hunt for the Blue Crown “should carry us through all the way to the end,” said Burke.

The creators have also had the final frame of Outer Banks in their minds for a while. “We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be,” said Josh Pate.

Following last season’s 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette’s proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure, Season 4 takes us back in time to the lead-up to that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a “normal” life.

They’ve built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed “Poguelandia 2.0,” where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop. But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer, drawn back into the “G” game for a whole new adventure.

But before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels, racing them to the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future – who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?
