Ridley Scott says he is working on ‘GLADIATOR 3’ right now.

Iconic filmmaker Ridley Scott has revealed that a third instalment in the epic Gladiator universe is currently “in process”.

At the end of 2024, Scott followed up his 2000 classic with Gladiator II. While the original Gladiator starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, the follow-up starred Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington.

Gladiator II sees Mescal’s character, Lucius, train to be a gladiator like his late father, Maximus, using his skills to seek revenge on Marcus Acacius and his army, who invade his home.

Answering questions for The GuardianScott gave a short but sharp answer to the prying fan question, “Will there be a third Alien prequel and a Gladiator 3?”

He responded, “Gladiator is in process right now. Another Alien prequel – yeah, if I get an idea, for sure.”

This is fitting for Mescal, as he has previously revealed that he’d love to star in a Gladiator sequel. He shared, “Oh yeah, massively down. I don’t think it will be [24] years — but I have no idea when it will be.”

In the interview, Scott also revealed that he had turned down the offer to work on Terminator 3. He shared, “I’m proud about this. I turned down a $20m fee. See, I can’t be bought, dude. Someone said: “Ask what Arnie gets.” I thought: “I’ll try it out.” I said: “I want what Arnie gets.” When they said yes, I thought: “Fuck me.” But I couldn’t do it. It’s not my thing.”

In a three-and-a-half-star review of Gladiator II, Far Out wrote, “It dials up every last bit of drama and is occasionally juvenile in its bid for attention. (Those sharks. Those emperors.) But it is also a dazzling spectacle that pulls all the right strings. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, it’s the kind of no-holds-barred crowd-pleaser that they just don’t make anymore, a classic summer blockbuster that puts the chilly Oscar-bait of the latter-year movie season to shame.”

Though the next movie is in process, Scott is currently at work on another project. He has confirmed that his next movie will be The Dog Stars, based on the 2012 post-apocalyptic novel of the same name written by Peter Heller. This will star rising actors Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley.
