After earning strong reviews for their Lionsgate thriller The Long Walk, David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman already have found the project they want to reteam on as the two are in talks to star in A24’s The Chaperones. A24 is partnering with Plan B and Icki Eneo Arlo on the project, with India Donaldson directing. The film is written by Sebastian Black in his feature debut.
The Chaperones is set days after Christmas, where three slacker friends are hired to transport a troubled teen across the country. Plan B and Robert Pattinson’s Icki Eneo Arlo will produce. Adam Wyatt Tate will executive produce.
Donaldson’s 2024 debut Good One, which screened at Cannes and Sundance, earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay and a National Board of Review Award for Best Directorial Debut.
Jonsson and Hoffman are coming off strong reviews in Lionsgate’s adaptation of Stephen King novel The Long Walk, which bowed earlier this month.
Besides The Long Walk, Jonsson is best known for his roles in Raine Allen-Miller’s Rye Lane and in Alien: Romulus. He is also set to star opposite Sydney Sweeney in Scandalous! and alongside Tom Blyth in Wasteman.
Hoffman next stars in Maude Apatow’s directorial debut Poetic License, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival, as well as Gregg Araki’s psychosexual thriller, I Want Your Sex opposite Olivia Wilde. Hoffman is well known for his breakout role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, for which Hoffman was nominated for Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, and was recognized by the National Board of Review for Breakthrough Performance.
Jonsson is represented by CAA, United Agents, and Granderson Des Rochers. Hoffman is represented by CAA. Donaldson is represented by CAA, Rise Management and Jackoway Austen. Black is represented by CAA, Rise Management and Jackoway Austen.
