Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Team Already Planning More Sequels

With Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire set for release in less than a month, director Gil Kenan is already thinking about the franchise's future.

Speaking to Total Film, Kenan revealed that he and executive producer Jason Reitman have already considered making more movies. "Jason and I really love GhostbustersWe love these characters, and we would be really happy if audiences were down to keep going on adventures with them," the director explained. "If audiences feel this way, then we know what the next stories are going to be."

Various members of the Frozen Empire cast are also ready to return for more ghost-busting action. "There's something so thrilling about working on these movies, especially as a woman," Carrie Coon, who plays Callie Spengler, said. "We're not often asked to participate in the adventure or the physical elements of movies like this. We're often just on the sidelines, so to be thrown into the action has been a real thrill. It's already going to be in my obituary, so I might as well lean in."

The Original Ghostbusters Play A Larger Role in Frozen Empire

Mckenna Grace, who plays Callie's daughter, Phoebe Spengler, is equally excited to return despite the difficulty she has lugging around her proton pack. "As heavy as those frickin' proton packs are, I would gladly put one on again," she explained. "The proton packs weigh around 40 pounds, but I'm fine with that because it's been a dream come true to be part of this franchise. I love these films. I love getting to be a Ghostbuster. I mean, who are you gonna call? This guy! Me."

Per the official synopsis, Frozen Empire will see "the Spengler family return to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters, new and old, must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age."

While the original Ghostbusters - Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), and Dr. Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) - only made a cameo appearance in Afterlife, they will be more involved in Frozen Empire. "That's the moment that's really thrilling for me as a Ghostbusters fan," Kenan said. Watching their involvement in the story redefine itself, grow, and become more fully fleshed out in a way that speaks to the promise of the original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2."

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will hit theaters worldwide on March 22.
