‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ Season 2 Is in the Works

While HBO has yet to renew “IT: Welcome to Derry,” a second season is already in development.

THR notes that co-creator Andy Muschietti “now finds himself a hot commodity thanks to the muscular success of ‘Welcome to Derry,’ HBO’s It series. A second season is now in the works, even if it has not been officially renewed.”

The news comes at little surprise given the success of the first season, which had HBO Max’s third most-watched debut in the platform’s history.

Serving as a prequel to Muschietti’s IT films based on Stephen King‘s classic novel, the first season of “IT: Welcome to Derry” went back to 1962 to trace the origins of the evil, shape-shifting entity known as Pennywise the Clown.

The second season is expected to take place in 1935, with a proposed third season to be set in 1908.

Muschietti developed the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Fuchs serves as co-showrunner with Brad Caleb Kane (“Crystal Lake”).

Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise. Jovan Adepo (“The Stand”), Taylour Paige (The Toxic Avenger), Chris Chalk (“Gotham”), James Remar (“Dexter”), Stephen Rider (“Daredevil”), Madeleine Stowe (12 Monkeys), and Rudy Mancuso (The Flash) lead the ensemble.
